For their new office in New York, Gannett envisioned a space that could reunite staff who had previously been dispersed across four floors at their former Madison Avenue location. Design Republic was engaged to lead a strategic site selection process, conducting feasibility studies for four locations before ultimately helping Gannett choose 1633 Broadway based on its optimal layout, amenities, and central location.

Following site selection, Design Republic developed multiple program options, working closely with Gannett to refine the layout based on evolving needs. The final design consolidates the entire team on a single floor, fostering synergy between departments and encouraging spontaneous collaboration. A welcoming concierge area and lounge—with a central family-style table—sets the tone for a communal workplace, while a connected café and town hall space offers flexibility for events, gatherings, and day-to-day use.

The design draws inspiration from Gannett’s belief that “community is the fabric that binds us.” This ethos is expressed through architectural and material gestures: wood elements and custom lighting fixtures thread through walls and ceilings to physically and symbolically weave the space together. String-like motifs reappear in pendants, carpets, and wall coverings, reinforcing the theme of interconnection.

A warm, textural palette—featuring soft neutrals, natural woods, and accents of blue and rust—creates an inviting, comfortable atmosphere. The space is designed not only for work, but for experience, supporting focus, collaboration, and casual interaction in equal measure. Despite a fast-tracked schedule, Design Republic successfully delivered a workplace that brings people together—staff, clients, and community—and enables them to connect, act, and thrive.
