Design Republic’s modernization of a historic art deco building in Midtown Manhattan celebrates the existing architecture while creating state-of-the-art office spaces. Our renovation of 16 East 34th balances the building’s existing art deco ornamentation with modern materials and technologies to meet the expectations of today’s tenants. Under a new curving marquee and restored façade, the enlarged entry leads to an elegantly renovated lobby anchored by a stone reception desk and art niche. New cove lighting softens and brightens the space, while details like brass inlays and a restored coffered ceiling evoke the jubilance of the roaring ‘20s. And to find new space in the 100-year-old building, we navigated modern building codes to create new accessible and useable rooftop terraces for tenants; lined with seating, benches, tables, a movie wall and spectacular views of the surrounding city scape.
