Located in the heart of Manhattan’s Flatiron District, the lobby of 56 West 22nd Street draws from the area’s rich architectural and cultural history. Once the epicenter of high-end retail along the famed Ladies’ Mile, this neighborhood flourished at the turn of the 20th century with ornate cast-iron facades and expansive glass storefronts that invited the city’s elite to window shop with newfound freedom.

Design Republic’s concept honors this transformative moment in history—particularly the growing independence of women—through a striking visual narrative. Colored glass, sculptural cast iron, and black-and-white photographic motifs are layered with dynamic lighting to reimagine the vibrancy of the district’s past. What was once seen only in grayscale is brought vividly to life, reframing history in full color.
