Moncler - NYC Flagship
New York, NY
The Moncler New York Flagship store, completed in October 2016, extends over two floors for a total area of approximately 6,000 sq ft. The space occupies the old Crate & Barrel store which was re-demised into 3 retail spaces. Due to different slab heights of the building, the floor had to be built up. This Flagship store has a concept that is unique to this location, and conceptually a departure from their current SoHo store that has a more rustic, cozy feel.
The concept for the new store, designed by Gilles et Boissier, is inspired by the brand’s Alpine origins. The long and narrow ground floor is divided into different rooms with a residential reminiscence, each room consisting of unique materials, fixtures and furniture. Some of the rooms are named: “L’entrée”, “Le Vestibule”, “La Bibiliotheque”, “La Cabinet Curiosite”, “Le Salon”, “La Tea Room”.Upon entering the store, you encounter a 140 feet long corridor through black and white chevron marble floor, which ends at a large head sculpture weighting 650 kg. Every inch of the space is covered in stone, smoked wood panel with moldings, wood flooring, bronze trim, or leather.
The high ceilings, intricate paneling and materials, along with the beautifully merchandised space create a space that captures the grandeur of a museum while maintaining an intimate residential feel.Materials are luxurious, intricate, masculine yet sensitive. Dark materials in most of the store are contrasted by a vast expansion of white marble in the rear cash wrap area and the feature stairs. Each “room” has wood ceiling and cove that creates intimate lighting, and between each room there is a stone portal, that appears to celebrate the transition between spaces.
